Aim of workshop

To familiarise participants to best contemporary OSCE principles and design

Outcomes

Participants will:

  1. Gain understanding of fundamental OSCE principles
  2. Learn how to apply best evidence practice to OSCE design
  3. Learn to blueprint an OSCE
  4. Gain hands-on experience of designing OSCE stations

Structure of workshop:

  • Principles underlying the use of OSCEs to test clinical and communication skills: interactive presentation 45 minutes
  • Blueprinting an OSCE: presentation and group activity – 30 minutes
  • Coffee break: 15 minutes
  • Designing OSCE stations: presentation and group activity – 60 minutes
  • OSCE Practicalities: presentation and discussion on how to construct valid OSCEs – 30 minutes

Who should attend?

Healthcare professional educators involved in designing and implementing OSCEs. Beginners welcome, as well as people with some experience of OSCEs, who want an update on best modern OSCE practice.
